This guide contains the steps for fixing all error messages, installation problems, and in game problems. I will add more things to this list as they come up.

Use Ctrl+F to find the error message you are getting.


Installation Problems


Cannot find 'ijl15.dll'
Your antivirus is messing with the files. Disable your antivirus, then download the ThunderMS client again.

Extract the files to your Maplestory folder and click “Yes to all” to replace the old ones. (See http://thunderms.tk for help on downloading the client.)

You will also have to add the files "LEN.dll", "LEN.ini", "ThunderMS" and "ijl15.dll" to your exceptions:

Windows Firewall
Go to Control Panel> Security Center> Windows Firewall> Exceptions> Add Exception. Add those four files to your list.

If you have AVG
Open the AVG User Interface.
Click Options> Advanced Settings> Add Exception. Then add those four files to your list.


ERROR CODE = -46 The installation file is corrupt and cannot install the game.
Delete your MS Setup file and reinstall it on a different browser. Chrome might have problems downloading it.


Canvas.dll or any other .dll file is corrupt
Delete your MS Setup file and reinstall it on a different browser. Chrome might have problems downloading it.


error code: -2147221000 (DLL for class not found)
You need to update your .net framework. (See the Downloads section at the end of this guide.)


“The archive is either in unknown format or damaged"

1. Use a different browser to download it.
2. If you are using Firefox: DO NOT pause the download.

If you still get the message...
3. Download 7-zip and use it to extract your files instead: Download

Still doesn’t work?
4. It is probably not a .rar file. Make sure you’re downloading the right thing.
MapleStory.rar


KB2345133 does not apply, or is blocked by another condition on your computer. (error message when updating .net framework)

You will need to run a Visual Studio product repair.

To repair the product on Windows XP or earlier
In the Add or Remove Programs dialog box, select the Visual Studio product you want to repair, then click "Change/Remove".
For example: Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition - ENU.
Click Next.
Click Repair.

To repair the product on Windows Vista
Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Programs.
Click on Programs and Features. Select the Visual Studio Edition that you installed.
Click "Uninstall/Change".
Select Repair or Reinstall and then click Next.
Follow the remaining instructions in the installation wizard to finish.


Game Problems


IMPORTANT.

For all in-game problems where you could play fine before but are having trouble now, you can try this as a last resort.

Go to Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> System Restore.
Set the date back to any time you could play the game fine, preferably not too far back. This will restore your computer’s settings to an earlier time. Don’t worry, you will keep all of the things you downloaded after that date. All it does is change the settings.


Maplestory has stopped working
1. Update your graphic drivers and .net framework. (See the Downloads section at the end of this guide.)

2. Turn off Microsoft Loopback Adapter.

3. (If you're using windows 7)
Do the following:

Right click on Maplestory.exe and the select Properties
Click on the Compatibility tab at the top
Run this program in compatibility mode for: select Windows XP SP3.
Check the box "Run this program as an administrator"
Choose “Run in 256 colors”

4. Reinstall Maplestory.

Still won't work? Disable antivirus and try running it in compability mode.
Still won't work? Your PC sucks balls -> Go buy a new one, don't even try to play games if it's a netbook.


Problems playing the game on Windows 7
Windows 7 is known to have many problems when running Maplestory.
Do the following:

Right click on Maplestory.exe and the select Properties
Click on the Compatibility tab at the top
Run this program in compatibility mode for: select Windows XP SP3.
Check the box "Run this program as an administrator"
Choose “Run in 256 colors”


Problems playing the game on Windows 8

Can't run the game- after the Nexon & Wizet screen, the game closes with no error message.

Go to Windows Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete), click Processes, and end all non-system processes (if you do not know what you are doing here, just end chrome, safari, or internet explorer).


Account already logged in or under inspection
After entering your ID, type "logout" as your password. Then type your real password and log in normally. If you log and and get stuck, or dc on the character selection screen, wait a few minutes and try again.


Error code -2147467261 Invalid Pointer
If you've played the game fine before and dced while in the game:
1. Someone is dc hacking. Relog and it should be fine.

If this is your first time playing, you can't log in without getting this message, or it still doesn't work:
1. Update your graphic driver. (See the Downloads section at the end of this guide.)
2. Turn off Microsoft Loopback Adapter.
3. (If you're using windows 7) See Problems playing the game on Windows 7
4. Reinstall Maplestory.


Disconnecting after entering your PIC
First of all, if you were banned on a different account, this is definitely the reason you are getting this problem. You were IP banned and you won't be able to play ThunderMS on your current computer ever again.

1. If you recently used "logout" as your password, wait a few minutes and try again.
2. Make a new account, log in, and do /find [ign]. If it shows that you are online, ask a GM to dc you. (skip this step if you are not logged in)
3. Use "fixme" as your password.
4. Update your graphic drivers (See the Downloads section at the end of this guide.)
5. Turn off Microsoft Loopback Adapter


Being directed to the global server instead
This includes error messages such as "This account has not yet been registered. Please visit Nexon.com to sign up!" When this happens, you are most likely on the wrong server.

First of all, make sure you downloaded the ThunderMs client and put the files in your Maplestory folder (See http://thunderms.tk for help on downloading the client.)

Open your LEN.ini file and make sure it says this:

[Main]
Enabled=1
Windowname=ThunderMs

[Server]
IP=_________

[Hacks]
SwapUsernamePassword=0


We are unable to connect to the login server due to a server check, a firewall block, or other network issues. Please check the MapleStory homepage for ongoing server checks as well as your firewall settings.
It's most likely a server restart, in which case you will have to wait a few minutes while the server is starting again. Check the forum to see if there is a server restart.

If you've played the game before, first try running ThunderMs again and see if it works. Sometimes it disconnects you with this message when your game is running fine.

If it still doesn't work, make sure your firewall isn't blocking the client from running by adding the files to your exceptions list:

Windows Firewall
Go to Control Panel> Security Center> Windows Firewall> Exceptions> Add Exception. Add "LEN.dll", "LEN.ini", "ThunderMs" and "ijl15.dll" to your list.

If you have AVG
Open the AVG User Interface.
Click Options> Advanced Settings> Add Exception. Then add those four files to your list.


Experiencing lag while playing the game
1. Close all other programs.
2. Do not use USB headphones.
3. Open Windows Task Manager and click on Processes. *Right-click "Maplestory.exe", and click set priority> high.
4. If you are in a guild alliance: that is probably the cause of the lag. You will have to leave the alliance.

If these don't work, either the server is having problems or you need a better computer.


You have entered an incorrect password
If this message appears during your first time playing, that means the ID is already taken by someone else, so try a different one.


Error code 38: Reached the end of the file.
Either someone is dc hacking or you have stayed in the cash shop for too long. Relog and play as normal. If the problem persists, I would suggest reporting it to a GM.


Account was wiped
1. Make sure you typed the correct username. You might have accidentally registered for a new account.
2. Inactive accounts are wiped occasionally in order to make the server faster. If you do not play for more than 2-3 months it's possible that your account was deleted.


Hackshield Errors


1. Error 0x00000204(516)

Reboot your computer and run ThunderMs as an administrator (Right click -> Run as Administrator).

If you still get this error, right click the maplestory folder and select properties. Then click the security tab and highlight your user account. Click “edit permissions”> full access. Deny permission for all guest accounts.

2. 0x00010705(67333)

Try running the game again, 3 times.
Make sure you've closed all unnecessary background operations, and stopped anything that could be interfering with it.
After 3 tries, if it doesn’t work it means your hackshield folder is corrupted. Reinstall Maplestory.

3. Error 0x00000003

Uninstall Maplestory, restart your computer, and download the client again.

4. Error 0x30000030 (805306416)

Usually this means your windows firewall or antivirus is messing with HackShield. This can be solved by adding LEN.ini, LEN.dll, ThunderMs.exe, and Maplestory.exe to your firewall and antivirus exceptions. Remember to restart your computer after doing so.

Turning off your antivirus also works, but it’s not safe to leave it off forever.

If you still get the same error, reinstall Maplestory.

5. Error (0x30000090)

See Error 0x30000030 (805306416)

6. 0x30000090(805306512) And 0x30000060(805306464)

Your HackShield folder is outdated, which probably means you installed the wrong thing. Either way, reinstall Maplestory.

7. Error 0x3000ffff(805371903)

Not much is known about this HackShield error. First try disabling your antivirus temporarily, and if it doesn’t work uninstall Maplestory.


How to turn off Microsoft Loopback Adapter
(for steps in this guide that tell you to do so)


Windows XP:
1. Open My Computer.
2. Right Click on My Computer, then click Properties.
3. You should be on the General tab
4. Click on Hardware Tab -> Device Manager.
5. Click “+” on Network Adapters.
6. Click On Microsoft Loopback Adapter, then click the delete button.
7. Click OK

Windows Vista / Windows 7:
1. Open My Computer.
2. Right click on My Computer, then click Properties.
3. Click on Change Settings.
4. You should be on the General tab
5. Click on Hardware Tab -> Device Manager.
6. Click “+” on Network Adapters.
7. Click On Microsoft Loopback Adapter, then click the delete button.
8. Click OK
